Why Being Single is a Gift

Would you rather: have a miserable marriage or be completely single forever? I would definitely choose being single forever. I mean I can always be the crazy dog lady, right? LOL! But in all seriousness, why singleness? And what does God say about singleness?

The Lord shows us many times in scripture that singleness is a gift. One of my favorites verses on singleness is in 1 Corinthians 7:8-9. Paul writes, “Now to the unmarried and the widows I say: It is good for them to stay unmarried, as I do. But if they cannot control themselves, they should marry, for it is better to marry than to burn with passion.”

Paul gives such wisdom with these words. Being truthful and letting us know it’s better to be single than married if you can’t control yourself. But often times we don’t want to control our burning passion for marriage and the acts inside of marriage. I’m going through a season when I’m having to wake up every morning and ask the Lord to calm my yearnings for marriage and a husband, and give me a heart that is satisfied in the Lord alone. I have faith that in His timing, the Lord will provide a man that will lead me to the cross. But until then, I am relentlessly pursuing Jesus and enjoying the gift He has given me. Singleness.

This season of waiting is a gift because it’s the only season that allows you to give your full attention to Jesus and His will for your life. The only season you can fully devote to serving Him and ministering to others without distractions. This is your season of being prepared for your groom, your heavenly groom.

It’s not an easy journey, but you’re not alone. Call on the Lord. Read a good book. Read THE good book. And just let the Lord prepare you. Whether it’s for your earthly groom, or your heavenly one, the Lord is going to reward for your waiting. With a man that is greater than anything you could ever imagine. His name is Jesus. Fall in love with Him before ever trying to fall in love with someone else.

The Lord is good and He is faithful. Waiting with Him is so worth it.

Your message is so, so inspiring. I literally feel the exact same way about Jesus, marriage and singleness. I’m happy to have found your blog. I feel that I can now move on from the crushing blow of not being pursued by my one true love. From the mature age of 12, when I first became a woman, I have placed my worth in men. I see that we can relate in this aspect. As much fun as it would be to give up my life, marry a father-like figure, bear children and give my future career in closet designing, I have not found The Lord’s man for me. I have reached the age of 18 without feeling the tender touch of that man. However, your word has reached the very core of my soul. Thank you. God Bless.
